1,000 Health and Fitness Tips #0020: If Injured, Specialize
One Framework For Taking Advantage Of Injury Periods
If you are somewhat addicted to exercise, like me, it may be difficult to cut back on training when you get injured.
This is especially the case when it means cutting back on your favorite exercises because they involve the injured body part. But, failing to take the appropriate recovery steps, in my experience, can lead to prolonging and maybe even worsening the injury.
One potentially useful strategy here is to use this time period to focus on maximizing training for another body part with a specialization phase.
For example, if you injure something in your upper body, use the next few months to pay extra attention to training your lower body.
By giving you a different outlet for your training focus, this might help you adhere to resting the injured body part appropriately. In addition, it will allow you to develop the specialized area, which, in my experience, is often a weak point that could use the extra attention.
