Talking Studies #007: Can Exercise Preserve Muscle Mass During Weight-Loss?

Looking at weight-loss with vs. without different exercise protocols

In this episode of the Talking Studies Series, I talk through a weight-loss trial that tested the addition of three different exercise protocols to a weight-loss diet vs. the weight-loss diet alone and a control protocol for improving metrics related to frailty, cardiorespiratory fitness, strength, muscle mass, and more in obese elderly adults.

Though this particular study focused on weight-loss in elderly individuals, I think the findings and takeaways are fairly relevant and interesting in regards to reducing losses of muscle mass and strength while losing fat mass in general.
